Warning about housing discrimination in Ireland

The July edition of the IPOA News  (Irish Property Owners newsletter) has issued the following warning in relation to the Equal Status Acts 2000-2008 in Ireland.

They say to landlords that you must be very careful to ensure that you do not discriminate when taking in tenants. The nine grounds on which discrimination are illegal are as follows:

Marital Status
Family Status
Sexual Orientation
Membership of the Traveller Community
Religious Belief
Race, Colour, Nationality, Ethnic or National Origins.

If discrimination does occur, compensation of up to €6,349 can be awarded. More information Here
